Cooling systems

The cooling system prevents the engine from running too hot or cold by circulating coolant using a water pump. It's controlled by the thermostat to the radiator, with the airflow assisted by the fan and belt. Perkins cooling systems are carefully specified and tested for many tens of thousands of hours to maximize efficiency and prolong engine life.

Genuine Perkins coolant relief valves

The coolant pressure relief valve helps maintain the correct operating pressure within the engine coolant system. Relieving pressure by releasing excess coolant back into the coolant reservoir.

Genuine Perkins fan belts

The engine's fan belt or drive belt power the cooling system, driving the water pump to circulate the coolant and turning the radiator fan, as well as generating electric power through the alternator. Slipping or worn belts reduce the power with the potential for diesel engine failure.

Genuine Perkins pulleys

Using drive from the crankshaft, the v-belt or serpentine belt provides the powers to key components including the water pump, alternator, and radiator fan. Tension of the belt is critical and signs of a failing belt include squealing, engine overheating, or visible cracks or wear of the belt.

Genuine Perkins radiator systems

The radiator or cooling system comprises the radiator, fan and guards, and is designed to control the diesel engine operating temperature. It prevents over-heating by circulating coolant or antifreeze around the engine block and cylinder head for efficient cooling whatever the application, be it a static generator, construction equipment or a moving machine.

Genuine Perkins thermostats

Thermostats regulate the flow of coolant to control the operating temperature of the diesel engine. A faulty or incorrect thermostat could potentially cause your Perkins engine to overheat; over expanding the pistons leading to scoring of cylinder walls, pistons seizing or even breaking connecting rods. Other failures include gasket breakdown causing leaks and oil thinning, leading to poor lubrication.

Genuine Perkins Water pumps

The water pump in your diesel engine circulates the coolant or antifreeze around the block and cylinder head to the radiator, to maintain the correct operating temperature. Pumps need to be replaced due to leaks caused by pin holes in the casting or failing gaskets and hoses, grinding noises from worn bearings, or corrosion caused by incorrect coolant.
