Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems remove harmful gases from the exhaust gas to meet the requirements of emissions standards. Uses the injection of Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), a urea-based liquid into the exhaust stream to convert harmful nitrous oxides to nitrogen gas and water. The SCR is combined with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) to deliver clean emissions. Perkins aftertreatment and engines are an integrated system and are specified, built and tested for optimum fuel economy, performance and to reliably meet emissions standards.

The injector is used to inject small quantities of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) into the exhaust upstream of a catalyst, where it vaporizes and decomposes to form ammonia and carbon dioxide. The ammonia (NH3) is the desired compound which in conjunction to the SCR catalyst, converts the NOx to harmless nitrogen (N2) and water (H2O). The purpose of the SCR system is to reduce levels of NOx (oxides of nitrogen emitted from engines) that are harmful to our health and the environment.
